National Volunteer Week
April 19 – 25, 2021

April 19 – 25, 2021 is National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism. The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well at the Chillicothe VA! Volunteers improve the quality of life for Veterans, their loved ones, and the rest of the VA family.

President Richard Nixon established the first National Volunteer Week in 1974 with a presidential proclamation. Each year since, the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) joins the Nation to observe and celebrate National Volunteer Week. During this time, we formally recognize and honor the profound impact and contributions of VA volunteers for their service to Veterans and their families. Annual contributions of over $109 million in gifts and donations are processed by Voluntary Services across the country supporting critical programs and essential services that have had a lasting and positive impact on our Veterans. In FY20, Volunteers nationwide contributed more than 4.4 million hours of service to Veterans. Throughout this week, VA awards and recognizes volunteers for their service, honoring the service of our country’s most committed volunteers and sharing their achievements to encourage more Americans to volunteer.

The Chillicothe VA Medical Center thanks the 184 active volunteers and 8 youth volunteers for their combined total of 9,751 hours donated to improve the lives of our Veterans and enhance the Veteran experience. For more information on adult or youth volunteer opportunities at the Chillicothe VA, contact our Voluntary Service at 740-773-1141, extension. 7420
